Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden: A Chic All-Suite Boutique Escape in Palma’s Old Town

Can Bordoy feels less like a conventional hotel and more like a private city mansion, with theatrical suites, a secret-garden and a quietly hedonistic atmosphere with a wonderfully cinematic sense of privacy. It's my perfect weekend hideout in Palma's old quarter

Five Star Hotel Rating

Can Bordoy Palma

Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden is the sort of hotel that makes Palma feel less like a city break and more like a secret you were lucky enough to be let in on. Hidden away in the La Lonja quarter of the Old Town, behind a discreet façade and an archway that gives little away, it occupies a restored 16th-century mansion with the atmosphere of a private residence that just happens to be exceptionally beautiful. What strikes you first is not showy luxury, but mood. The lighting is low, the proportions are generous, and the whole place feels deliberately relaxed, as if it's decided there's no need to compete with the city outside. In a destination that can lean heavily on sun, gloss and easy charm, Can Bordoy feels darker, more romantic and considerably more interesting.

Rooms and suites

The 24-room accommodation has a distinctly residential feel, with rooms and suites ranging from intimate hideaways to expansive, statement-making spaces. Interiors lean into velvet, antiques, deep tones and freestanding tubs, but there's enough restraint to stop the effect from becoming costume drama. It's sensual rather than theatrical. The best categories, especially the Sky Suite with its private terrace and the garden-facing Grand Suite, feel built for those long, dreamy Palma mornings when there is no real urgency to leave. Even the entry-level rooms have a richness and softness to them that makes many so-called boutique hotels feel oddly generic by comparison.

Food and drink

Food here is more integral to the hotel’s personality than an afterthought attached to a handsome courtyard. Botànic remains the address’s gastronomic heart, with a plant-forward approach that feels particularly well suited to Mallorca’s produce, climate and slower rhythm of eating. This is not vegan evangelism in luxury-hotel disguise, nor is it a token vegetable section on an otherwise predictable menu. Instead, the kitchen gives produce a central, intelligent role, while still leaving space for pleasure, flavour and a little surprise. Breakfast in the garden is one of the nicer ways to begin a day in Palma, and later on, the bar and in-suite dining keep the experience feeling intimate rather than performative.

Hotel amenities

Amenities are thoughtful, seductive and just slightly unusual, which suits the house. The boutique spa sits within the hotel’s 12th-century foundations, giving treatments a more cocooning, almost subterranean feel, while the heated garden pool and rooftop pool with panoramic views add a welcome sense of contrast. There is also a broader wellness rhythm to the stay now, with yoga and meditation access through Sadhana Works, which gives the hotel a more contemporary edge without disturbing its old-soul character. None of it feels forced. It all folds neatly into the mood of the place.

Location

The location is excellent if you want Palma with texture. La Lonja is one of the city’s most atmospheric quarters, full of narrow lanes, galleries, good-looking bars and that easy drift between old stone and contemporary life that Palma does so well. The marina, the cathedral and the smarter shopping streets are all within walking distance, but Can Bordoy feels sufficiently tucked away to hold its own sense of seclusion. You are in the middle of things, but never trapped by them.

Hotel rating

I would place Can Bordoy firmly among Palma’s top boutique stays. Not because it is the loudest or most immediately glamorous, but because it has identity, coherence and confidence. It knows exactly what it is, and it delivers that vision with unusual consistency.

Hotel vibe

The vibe is cinematic, low-lit and quietly decadent, but never cold. There's something deliciously grown-up about it, from the shadowy interiors to the secret-garden atmosphere at the back. For travellers who like their luxury with character, privacy and a little mystery, Can Bordoy is one of Palma’s best boutique addresses.
